South Jersey Innovation Center (SJIC), the premier STEM education center in the Philadelphia metropolitan area, holds a “Starting out Chess” after school program at Kellman Brown Academy.
SJIC is led by FIDE Master and International FIDE Trainer Dov Gorman, 3rd place finisher in the 2021 US Open, U.S. Chess League First Team All-Star, runner-up for the U.S. Chess League MVP, and a champion of two states.
This unique workshop is a special course, an introduction to Chess program. The objective of the workshop is to introduce students to the game of chess. The course introduces the rules of the game, the board and the pieces as well as basic decision making skills such as strategy and tactics. The course focuses on understanding important chess patterns which are used as foundation for further progress.
NOTE - ALL CLASSES RUN FROM 3:30- 4:30pm sharp (NO MAKEUP CLASSES) - late pickup beyond 4:35pm will be charged $25/child for aftercare.
Please be aware that this club is offered by an outside organization; therefore it is a separate fee and not covered under KBA activity fees.
